You Can’t Really Change the World

“You can change the world!” “You can do anything you want to do!” “You can be anything you want to be!”

These are just a few phrases we hear all the time. But the truth is, you can’t do anything you set your mind to and you can’t be anything you want to be if you weren’t wired for it or don’t possess the skill set needed to do it. As a 6’6 black man, I will never be a successful horse jockey. My height will tell you I’m not wired for it, and it is not a skill set I possess, regardless of how hard I try.

I believe, if we spent more time growing in self-awareness to understand how we were wired, how we were designed, and the skill sets we possess, we would be better equipped to change the world around us and live full, satisfying, and authentic lives.

Feel like you’re not making progress in “changing the world”? Tired of trying to become someone you might not have been wired to be? Maybe it’s time to take an honest look at yourself. Assess your skills, assess your past and see where you’ve produced the most fruit, ask those around you what you bring to the table.

You don’t have to be everything, just all you were created to be. You don’t have to change the world, but you are responsible to change the world around you.
